The Cowboy Shirt...

A good friend of mine (for the sake of anonymity I'll call her Stephanie K.)  and I took an afternoon jaunt on Sunday down to Commercial Drive to poke around the eclectic mix of shops and restaurants (and drink double Caesars). Years ago I used to collect vintage ties so quite often my days off were spent exploring the many vintage clothing stores we have around town. I don't shop in them much anymore (they're kind of stinky) but on Sunday we stumbled (not literally) across one called Mintage.
Another good friend of mine (I'll call him "Steve Jones") had recently purchased a couple of tickets for Dwight Yoakam live at the River Rock Casino. I'm not a big fan of the current state of country music but a real breath of fresh air for me in music, country and otherwise has always been Dwight Yoakam. I find his music sheer perfection and if I ever need a country music fix it's almost always Dwight. He has been such a consistent artist and performer since he broke on the scene in 1986 with the classic Guitars, Cadillacs, etc. I've always marveled at his ability (genius really) to take a simple genre such as country and make it sound fresh and new with his extraordinary songwriting talents. (On a sidebar I think he once dated Sharon Stone. She has a quote that goes something like, "Women might fake orgasms but men fake relationships." I wonder if she was talking about Mr. Yoakam).
Anyway I totally digress, back to the shirt. I was browsing through this rack of shirts when this one just sort of leapt out at me... a Bar-M classic. I figured that since I was going to Dwight I might as well pick up something a little bit country. I modeled it for Stephanie to which she gushed, "That shirt is totally you!" I was in and the rest is history except the Dwight show... and maybe some boots and a hat and a vest and some Skoal and a big shiny buckle...

Yes! The shirt was in full need of an explanation!
Still, I'm tellin' ya, add a few rhinestones and jewels on it and I see '3000 Miles to Graceland' all over again!
Nah, just hafta kid you a bit. I have tons of different clothes in the basement. High school kids borrow the plaid or baby blue leisure suits for 'retro day' every year...They are usually skin tight and look god-awful--awfully funny!

Oh, and thanks for some of your answers to make me feel better. I usually end up responding, then realize it was on my own page which doesn't seem to be right...Have a great night!

That's true, it just doesn't seem right somehow to be responding on your own page...There used to be a time I could find all kinds of crazy clothes at Sally Ann or Value Village but as the years have gone by those finds are few and far between... Do you have any white shoes to go with that leisure suit ?
